Temporary Differences

You can add Temporary Differences in the Temporary Differences - Tax Basis screen in the Manage Units folder of the Administration area. An existing Temporary Difference description can be modified. Only a Temporary Difference that has no data entry in any dataset can be deleted.

To import a new Temporary Difference, complete the appropriate fields on the #CTD# Temporary Differences sheet in the Import Categories template. For more information on importing, refer to the Importing Templates documentation.

The default conditions setup at administration level may be modified at the dataset level. This allows prior datasets to be preserved at the 0% or 100% settings with any manual entries. This also allows datasets going forward to have different % applied on a state by state basis.

Important:

The Default Type will default to NC-Non-Current. To set up the Default Type going forward, you can manually update or export the Categories, update to the proper defaults then import them.
Please see your System Administrator if you have questions about the "Default Type" default that has been set up.

Screen Entry Fields

Code and Name

The Temporary Difference code is user-defined and can be any combination of alpha and numeric characters, including spaces, up to 60 characters. The name can be edited after it is created.
The Temporary Difference code and name display in reports.

Included for State

Determine whether or not this permanent difference federal values should be included for state calculations or not. In the Included for State column, click on the drop-down box for each Permanent difference to select None, All, or Custom.

None

0% flows from the Federal to the States.

All

100% flows from the Federal to the States.

Custom

Custom gives you the ability to add a custom allocation on a state by state basis and abide by specific state rules. This can be set up at the dataset level or in administration. Select Custom. A dialog box displays for you to select the States, Is Included and enter the Rate. In the header, you may select the box to include all states then change any outliers, as needed. Also, you may select each state, individually. The box will be activated with a check mark. If you do not want the adjustment to be included for a state then select the box to remove the check mark.

Warning:  If you add Custom states old datasets will be impacted if you regenerate the reports for those datasets. Existing clients will add Custom states at the dataset level.

Copy From

In the Copy From list for adjustments that behave the same over multiple jurisdictions. Select Copy.

Enter a Common Rate

You may enter a Common Rate and that rate will populate all the activated states. These rates may be changed, if needed. Select Save, otherwise, you will get a message "There are unsaved changes in this form. Click Yes to Save changes. Click No to Discard changes".

Once data is entered for this adjustment Code, this designation cannot be modified.

The administrator has the ability in Manage Configurations to designate a Default Type of C-Current / N-Non-Current to a Temporary Difference. Also, the administrator may disable the drop-down list so that only the Default Type is available. Because there are cases when the Current / Non-Current default type is overwritten, the "Default Type" can be set up by the administrator to be overridden for any line item.
